The Writtings on the Wall

Ever heard of the saying the writing is on the wall, I am certain you have, look what the bible says about it (Daniel 5:1 – 30 ) :
The Writing on the Wall
5 King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with them. 2 While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father[a] had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them. 3 So they brought in the gold goblets that had been taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. 4 As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.
5 Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. 6 His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking.
7 The king summoned the enchanters, astrologers[b] and diviners. Then he said to these wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
8 Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant. 9 So King Belshazzar became even more terrified and his face grew more pale. His nobles were baffled.
10 The queen,[c] hearing the voices of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. “May the king live forever!” she said. “Don’t be alarmed! Don’t look so pale! 11 There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners. 12 He did this because Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar, was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”
13 So Daniel was brought before the king, and the king said to him, “Are you Daniel, one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah? 14 I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom. 15 The wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing and tell me what it means, but they could not explain it. 16 Now I have heard that you are able to give interpretations and to solve difficult problems. If you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
17 Then Daniel answered the king, “You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and tell him what it means.
18 “Your Majesty, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and greatness and glory and splendor. 19 Because of the high position he gave him, all the nations and peoples of every language dreaded and feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he put to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled. 20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. 21 He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like the ox; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.
22 “But you, Belshazzar, his son,[d] have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. 23 Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways. 24 Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription.
25 “This is the inscription that was written:
mene, mene, tekel, parsin
26 “Here is what these words mean:
Mene[e]: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end.
27 Tekel[f]: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.
28 Peres[g]: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”
29 Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.
30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians,[h] was slain,

Beautiful Spirits

I am currently working my way through Skattie what are you wearing’s blog list. Today I discovered Kwesi Abbensetts a photographer. Some of the stuff comes across a bit smelly, but there are a few images that really spoke to me like the one above. After a glances inspection I realised the back drop is a wall blanketed in leaves. And then depending on where you go first you see an afro and then eyes, I can see four pairs. There is one in the centre with red eyes, oh she is scary.  It all takes me to a word I received today 1 John 4: 1-6 :
Dear Friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognise the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world and, and the world listens to them.
We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognise the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

The Rider

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.

His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no-one knows but himself.

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and his name is the Word of God.

The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.

Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations."He will rule them with an iron sceptre."He treads the winepress of fury of the wrath of God Almighty.

On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
                                  KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Lastnight, I went to mid week service, and we where directed to Revelations 19 :11 - 16, as written above. I love the imagery, its so vivid and beautifull, like these images Irene Suchocki too. Miss Milli B first introduced me to them. But the post is about The Rider, can you see Him ?

Print on Print

I have to try this print on print trend. I think it’s me either, I am going to get something made, or I am going to go hunting for items that can best execute what I have in mind.I am also going to try hook up this loose curls afro. I saw this girl with extensions that I think would be able to "get the look", she said they where call talent diva and I could get them from Shwetha. On that! See Solange, she is my inspiration. I just love the randomness of it, it’s just so free. I want to be free, oh that reminds me of something I read today in one of those tracks that this lady hands out without fail everyday as she enters her taxi , it said ; Christ Jesus only can set you free. He whom the Son of God sets free is free indeed. (John 8: 36).

Blog what- what

I pushed the "join this site" button today for the first time ever. I read so many blogs, well Miss Mili B, Skattie What are you Wearing, Style Guide Cape Town, and recently Tee Tee is With Me almost daily.
 I love these blogs, I admire their craft. There’s something that all of them teach me; brand identity, branding, marketing, curating, photography and I guess most importantly style.
But low and behold I have never been led by the Holy Spirit to affirm them more with my joining their site.
On one hand it is arrogance, perhaps envy-jealousy on my part, but I would also like to think that on the other hand, the better and truer hand, it’s because I am not completely on their side.
It is either the blog is too crude, or too white, or too something I can’t put my finger on; just not completely me right now. Maybe its Lula a few years ago, and eish I guess I can still see the coolness in it all, but I am a new creation now and I am trying to live that life not only speak it.
That being said Galatians 6: 11-18 has made me think about my own sense of self-righteousness and cautious not to think highly of myself even if I "preach" for lack of a better word. I.e. it once again has reminded me that all the praise that I give to God in this blog should not only be about me wanting to be recognized and reputed as a God fearing woman. No! Not that only or even first. It should be about me wanting to lift Jesus and God higher because life and glory for that matter now should and can no longer be about me. Everything that happens in my life now, well especially the good is from and about giving glory to the one that has made it possible; GOD in the name of JESUS. Oh and I said especially the good because perhaps there is cause to argue that the Lord sometimes allows bad things to happen in our lives so that we can trust him more, I mean He even let a bad things happen to Jesus , he was crucified on a cross, and dead for three days. But it was all for His glory, hence he rose Jesus from the dead.
But what I was saying is that, I have never, until today that is felt that there was a blog, I guess even a person that could stand for style and success and God as effortlessly as I would want to. Bonnie Mdluli, or Bonnie Henna as she is now married gave me that urge to join today.
In parts because she only has 20 members right now, and I don’t like to be a follower but a starter, oh gosh does that make me conceited? So I felt less like I was becoming a groupie but like I was discovering an undiscovered gem first, and everyone wants the phone before it is available in the store-I mean the country you understand?
But even more than that, she is married now, and she is loving it, not even trying to play it down, and I need inspiration like that in a world where marriage never mind black marriages are nothing to celebrate or mention. I feel like she has been a complete success ( I mean seriously she has been in countless local and international movies) on her own but even now that she is married she is even more beautiful that she has this capacity to love a man unapologetically and  have a family with him.
It’s also significant to me that she is very open about fighting depression, but maybe I l get into that more later in on this blog. In hindsight even without have having read it for myself I should have been able to pick it up. There is this distinct demeanour that she exudes that has a subdued, flaccid almost jah depressed thing to it, it’s the depression she battles/ed with.
And maybe lastly it her effortless style, tell me if I am wrong but Bonnie is definitely a stylish woman if not simply a style icon. It’s just always been that way, I feel like she has never really tried hard for it either, or maybe it was that depression thing that made it come across that way. Either way I remember her (because I feel like she is not in the public eye as much these days, but come to think of it she is making a comeback in the form of her new book Eyesbags and Dimples. And actually she has probably been overseas or doing other way more monumental things say behind the scenes or auditioning in America) style has always been on point, almost in a Thandiswa Mazwai way ( but now without the ancestral connotations, thank you Jesus, hence that black consciousness thing she has got going on that I  identify with too) slash Nonie Gaza kinda way.
Takes Deep Breath in and OUT.
Oh and one more thing I am loving about her, is that she enjoys writing and hence, a safe enough presumption reading. I do too, as I am sure you have gathered by now. But truth be told one always feels like blogs or maybe should I say fashion blogs or better yet the fashionable blogs do not have much writing, because maybe the assumption again is that people in the fashion industry are not thought full? Wow that’s an interesting one.
Anyway, yay today I pressed the join this site button for the very first time. If you are reading this and in any way you hear me please join this site.
I will be honest there is this deep desire for affirmation that someone’s reading this, that someone feels me. And then of course eventually I want to be able to do something meaning full with this space, yes and that includes gaining financially because I want success for myself as does God, I mean OMG look what the bible says in Leviticus 26:10 - away rat race and living hand to mouth be gone from me - cant deal!

Come Dine With Me

Last year sometime my friendship Katelgo, whom I have posted about in an earlier edition encouraged me to enter for Come Dine With Me South Africa. Laugh Out Loud. I entered knowing full well that my skills in the kitchen where not up to scratch, naturally the panellist could sense this from my answers, but I have been a fan ever since.
I now live vicariously through this programme; I can just picture me being host to our friends or me preparing Christmas lunch this festive instead of my aunts and mother.
One thing that watching Come Dine With me, and subsequently most of the food programmes on BBC Lifestyle and the Food Network is that it has given me a new lease on my own abilities to cook and bake for that matter.
I have discovered that I can do it; I just need to experiment and try the recipes. More so, there is a selection of dishes that can give me a totally different experience to the usual chicken curry and rice within an ordinary man’s budget.  Here’s one I am thinking to try soon courtesy of:
 (hence all the lingo i.e. “the grill”)
Ingredients
For the burger
540g/1lb 3oz minced beef chuck steak
25g/1oz chopped coriander
1 onion, chopped
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 free-range egg yolk
1 tbsp olive oil
salt and freshly ground black pepper

To serve
4 slices mature Cheddar
4 tbsp mayonnaise
½ iceberg lettuce, shredded
4 ciabatta rolls
1 red onion, sliced
1 beef tomato, sliced

Preparation method
1.Place all the burger ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir to combine. Using your hands, shape into four equal-sized patties.
2.Preheat the grill to hot. Cook the burgers under the grill for 15 minutes, or until cooked through, turning once.
3.Top each burger with a slice of cheese towards the end of the cooking time.
4.Before serving, mix together the mayonnaise and lettuce. Cut the ciabatta rolls in half and toast under the grill on both sides.
5.Top the bottom halves of the ciabatta rolls with the lettuce and mayonnaise, followed by a slice of tomato.
6.Arrange the burger and cheese on top of the ciabatta, followed by a slice of red onion. Top each burger with the other halves of the ciabatta rolls and serve

Heavens Help my Heart I am on FIRE

What I am feeling can only be lust, pray for me. I can’t look at this picture without immediately being flooded with feelings of romance and passion oooh snap its HOTT, I mean he is hot, can you deal with that bone structure.
Thanks to SDR Fashion Shows for the image and Drive Fashion for the suit and Durban Fashion Fair for the platform. I was on comms this night, I am grateful.

Words

The Word - Colossians 2: 8

See to it that no-one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

Chris Saunders - Photography

Honestly I don’t identify with what she is wearing, but something about the picture in its entirety speaks to me. It’s the hair, and the graffiti and the lime green taxi and her pose and the fact that she has her fist in the air sealed the deal. Zabalaza wena!

BOOM SHAKA

For the longest of time, I have wanted to do this hair style we see here on Solange, I call it the BOOM SHAKA after the mark Lebo and Thembi made on us in SA. It’s about time I give it a try neh? I have noticed that all fashionistas give this look or a variation of it a try at least once, I think because you have to be really brave and confident in yourself to pull it off. I figure because "amasigili" are such a blast from the 90s that do not hold any economic status to them because the extensions are like R6 a packet from Kinky, unlike their Brazilian and Indian weave counter parts that range in the thousands, no! iBOOM SHAKA is a fashion statement, it says look at me, I am rocking my 90s swag today and if you don’t get it it’s you not me.

Survivor Lyrics - Bob Marley

(Ow, ow-ow-ow-ow!
Ow, ow-ow-ow-ow!)
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
How can you be sitting there
Telling me that you care -
That you care?
When every time I look around,
The people suffer in the suffering
In everyway, in everywhere.

Say: na-na-na-na-na (na-na, na-na!):
We're the survivors, yes: the Black survivors!
I tell you what: some people got everything;
Some people got nothing;
Some people got hopes and dreams;
Some people got ways and means.

Na-na-na-na-na (na-na, na-na!):
We're the survivors, yes: the Black survivors!
Yes, we're the survivors, like
Daniel out of the lions' den
(Black survivors) Survivors, survivors!
So I Idren, I sistren,
A-which way will we choose?
We better hurry; oh, hurry; oh, hurry; wo, now!
'Cause we got no time to lose.
Some people got facts and claims;
Some people got pride and shame;
Some people got the plots and schemes;
Some people got no aim it seems!

Na-na-na-na-na, na-na, na!
We're the survivors, yes: the Black survivors!
Tell you what: we're the
survivors, yeah! - the Black survivors, yeah!
We're the survivors, like
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
(Black survivors),
Thrown in the fire, but-a never get burn.
So I Idren, I-sistren,
The preaching and talkin' is done;
We've gotta live up, wo now, wo now! -
'Cause the Father's time has come.
Some people put the best outside;
Some people keep the best inside;
Some people can't stand up strong;
Some people won't wait for long.

(Na-na-na-na-na!) Na-na-na, na-na-na na!
We're the survivors
In this age of technological
inhumanity (Black survival),
Scientific atrocity (survivors),
Atomic misphilosophy (Black survival),
Nuclear misenergy (survivors):
It's a world that forces lifelong
insecurity (Black survival).

Together now:
(Na-na-na-na-na!) Na na-na na na! (Na na-na na na!)
We're the survivors, yeah!
We're the survivors!
Yes, the Black survivors!
We're the survivors:
A good man is never honoured (survivors)
in his own yountry (Black survival).
Nothing change, nothing strange (survivors).
Nothing change, nothing strange (Black survivors).
We got to survive, y'all! (survivors) - fadeout

LULA

Maybe I should take it as a hectic sign from God and my brother Jesus that it is their perfect will that I live a stylish life.
Please take a moment to look at these images I found in a blog called LULA –The subject I know best.
“It is a blog of a sketched, scanned and digitally restyled LULA. She is also Editor in Chief and Creative Director of all illustrated magazine HERSELF.”
In other words she is a cartoon character that dresses in designer label clothes from the likes of Gucci and Louis Vuitton.
Though what I like more about it is that there is always an effort with each post to be accompanied by visual illustrations that depict the story board to the look.
I am having trouble containing my excitement. I have come to notice that LULA is a hot name in the fashion circles; I mean I have always known about LULA Magazine, and it is lovely and whimsical but this LULA, she is black and high fashion!
The images in this post are from a post they titled BLUE BYE BYE, which is very fitting for me today. Please pray for me.
Any who back to the clothes above is Lula-Wearing Elie Saab Haute Couture dress, Dolce&Gabbana belt and bag, HERSELF silk scarf and CHOPARD jewels. And below Roger Vivier Green satin shoes, HERSELF silk scarf Tancredi Chain,Alaia IPad and IPhone leather cases and Chopard Red Carpet Collection jewels.
