Conscious Fashion

There is power in the way that you dress. You start speaking before you even open your mouth. And yes although fashion can be frivolous even that is an expression. I wonder what Winnie Madikizela- Mandela was thinking in this picture. Yoh my head is spinning for that head wrap it is all kinds of cool: the colour, the placement of the “V” on her forehead and that poodle ponytail –what character.

 I quite enjoy Angela Davis in the above image too. I first heard of her at a free screening during the International Durban Film Festival about a month ago. This particular documentary “The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975” illuminated the Black Power movement in America. Her look is still relevant for me. If only my natural hair looked like hers! And really can you go wrong with denim? Add the interesting texture that the jersey brings and top it off with French styled scarf equals the look is elegant yet casual and timeless.

 Steven Bantu Biko did it too, layering that is.
